Newsletter December 12th-16th

Thank you to our many families who helped with Santa's Workshop. The kids enjoyed purchasing Christmas gifts for their families.

Jesus Time: Learning about the Advent season and ways we can worship Jesus.

Kindergartners may wear dress clothes or church clothes on Thursday.
We ask that each family bring one appetizer to share after the program.

Newsletter December 5th-9th

Jesus Time: We are learning about ways to worship baby Jesus during the Christmas season.
Math: Counting with Pennies and learning how to tell time by the hour.
Writing/Reading: Our new word of the week: have.  
We are reading the book Our Special Sweet Potato Pie.  
Ask your child what is their favorite family dish?

Save the date!  Parents, grandparents and relatives join us for our Christmas Play on 
Thursday, December 15th at 11 a.m.
Join us afterwards in the classroom for drinks and appetizers

We will need families to bring appetizers to the classroom before the play.  
If you are able to bring a peanut free appetizer please let me know. 
We are estimating at least 60 people to be here for the Christmas play.

There will be a rehearsal on Wednesday, December 16th at 9:30 a.m. 
Preschool will be attending to observe Kindergarten.  
If you are able to be an extra set of hands please let me know.

The Elementary School has a challenge to raise 1,000 cans of food for Kirk Care Food Drive 
by this Wednesday!!
If every child brings at least 5 cans then we can meet our goal.  
The reward is a Christmas movie with popcorn this Friday.

Newsletter November 21st-22nd

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Newsletter November 14-18

Jesus Time:  This week we will be learning about An Angel's Announcement in Luke 1
Reading: This week we are reading Duck on a Bike.  Ask your child about their own story they made up Duck on a             .
Math: In math we are working on counting and matching pictures with numbers
along with writing the number 7.

As cold weather is approaching practice with your child on zipping and buttoning jackets/coats.  Also bring hats and gloves since we never know what the weather will be like during our recess.  If you have extra sets of gloves that you would like to donate to the class that would be much appreciated.

Looking ahead to Christmas (I know Thanksgiving isn't even here yet)
Our Christmas play will be on Thursday, December 15th at 11:00 a.m.
There will be desserts and appetizers in the classroom after the play.
We ask that each family attending bring an appetizer to share.

Classroom Project Supplies

As the rain has been keeping us inside a little more these past few weeks we are able to do more inside projects with the students.  We are in need of some materials for the classroom.

Newsletter November 7th-11th

Jesus Time: This week we are talking about Daniel and the Fiery Furnace.
Reading: Mini reading books have been sent home in your child's backpack.
Have them read to you or to a sibling for extra practice.
Math: Sorting activity.  Don't forget to practice the sorting activity that was sent home this past week.  Also, try counting with your child up to 50.  In class we have been working on writing numbers 0-10 and will be continuing with numbers 11-20.

Time Change: Fall Back 1 hour! Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour this Saturday.
Reminder: As we are getting into our school routines, just a friendly reminder, the first bell rings at 8:00 a.m.  I would like for everyone to be here by the 8:15 a.m. bell and the 8:20 a.m. bell will allow us to begin on time.  Our mornings are very busy with chapel, gym and choir.  Thanks!

Newsletter October 31-November 4th

Jesus Time: We will be talking about David this week from 1 Samuel 16; Psalm 23.
Reading/Writing: This week we are reading the book The Bus for Us
Math: This week we are working on the number 6 and connecting the dot activities.


Attention all Parent Volunteers!!  I am so happy to have help in the classroom especially more one on one attention with reading groups.  If you would like to help out in the classroom please send me an email.  We will mainly need help on Tuesdays and Thursdays around 9 a.m.  We will start this Thursday.

Reminder!!  Providing the weather cooperates, the east parking lost and main parking lost will be re-paved Monday through Friday.  Please use the driveway by the YACC (the old Hardee's building) to enter the elementary campus.  Thanks for your flexibility.


Book Fair!! November 1st-4th
Kindergarten will have our book preview on Tuesday. The Book Fair will open during the day Wednesday through Friday at noon.
On Wednesday, November 2nd there will be a Book Fair Breakfast in the gym from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Newsletter October 24-28

Jesus Time: This week we are learning about Samuel.
Reading/Writing: This week we are reading the book Simon and Molly plus Hester.  We are still discussing friendships. One of our morning discussion questions is "Do you always like what a friend does?"

Math: This week we are continuing to work on patterns and sorting objects.


Student-Led Conferences are Thursday, October 27th
Please look at your child's report card, sign it, and bring it back in the envelope to the conference.  This meeting will last about 20 minutes.


What to look for at a Student-Led Conference?
Students will take the lead as they introduce their parents, open with prayer, share examples of their academic progress and learning goals.  Teachers will listen and serve as facilitators.  Parents follow their student's lead, listen intently, encourage explanations and provide positive feedback and support.


Suggested Questions and Comments for Parents During a Student-Led Conference

  • How did you learn that?
  • Can you show me an example...
  • I've noticed that you've learned....

The Elementary building will have an early dismissal Thursday at 12:10 p.m.  We will be walking out on the side of the building.  Either you can pick up your student in the drive through or walk up to get your child.  We will be outside at 12:00 p.m.

Newsletter October 17-21

Jesus Time: This week we are learning about Ruth and the work she did to praise God.

Reading/Writing: This week we are reading the book Friends All Around.  We also have morning questions that go along with our reading series such as "What do you do when you meet a friend?"  Discuss some answers at home.

Math: This week we are working with pattern blocks and designs made with the blocks.

Student-Led Conferences and Report Cards:  WOW!  Our first quarter is officially over!!  Report cards are sent home on Friday along with your scheduled conference time.  I will try to honor your first selection and be mindful of siblings when setting conferences times.  Early Dismissal for the whole Elementary school on October 27th at 12:10.  Pick up will be on the side of the building; be there at Noon. Thank you!

Meet a few of Webster Groves Firemen

Webster Groves Fire Department came today and spoke with 
Kindergarten about what to do in case of a fire.
The smoke goes up and we get down low.

Stop, Drop, and Roll.

They have to put their fire suits on in one minute.












They had a fire call during their presentation.


Turns out it was a false alarm and they got to stay!
